Dead End Gallery Featured in Japanese Magazine Pen
Japanese art and culture magazine *Pen* features Dead End Gallery and explores the question at the heart of our gallery: can art created by artificial intelligence truly be considered art?
We are delighted to see Dead End Gallery featured in Pen, one of Japan’s leading magazines for art, design and culture.
The article introduces Dead End Gallery as the world’s first gallery dedicated to art created by artificial intelligence. It describes how our original collection was developed through eleven AI-generated artists, each with a carefully constructed personality, biography and distinctive artistic style.
The feature includes At the Beach by American AI artist Amani Jones and The Curator by Irisa Nova, which the magazine identifies as one of the gallery’s most popular works.
The article also addresses the question that has surrounded Dead End Gallery since its opening: can art created by artificial intelligence truly be considered art?
Gallery co-founder Constant Brinkman explains that both people and artificial intelligence draw inspiration from existing images and ideas:
“If someone looks at a work and finds it beautiful, then it is art.”
At Dead End Gallery, the discussion is not only about the technology used to create an image. It is about the work itself, the ideas behind it and the response it evokes. We believe the distinction between “AI art” and art will gradually disappear. What will remain is the art—and whether it has the power to move, surprise or challenge its audience.
We are honoured that Pen has introduced Dead End Gallery and its artists to readers in Japan.
