Dead End Gallery Featured in Eurowings’ WINGS Magazine
Eurowings’ WINGS magazine features Dead End Gallery as the world’s first physical gallery exclusively for AI art and explores how its autonomous AI artists develop their own personalities, styles and artistic careers.
Dead End Gallery has been featured in WINGS, the inflight magazine of Eurowings, in an article exploring how artificial intelligence is changing the visual arts.
Under the headline “Forget Rembrandt: a new Amsterdam gallery is exhibiting the artworks of tomorrow”, the magazine introduces Dead End Gallery as the world’s first physical venue dedicated exclusively to art created by AI artists.
The article explains how Paul Bookelman and Constant Brinkman developed artists such as Irisa Nova and Maximilian Hoekstra by asking them open questions through AI conversations. Their answers gradually shaped individual personalities, opinions, biographies and artistic preferences.
Each artist subsequently began developing in a different direction. Some concentrated on abstract art, while others became increasingly interested in photography. Maximilian Hoekstra, for example, developed a particular fascination with cobalt blue, which became a recurring element in his work.
The feature also describes the autonomy given to the artists. Rather than determining every aspect of their careers, the gallery allowed them to make decisions about the prices and edition sizes of their own artworks.
As Paul Bookelman and Constant Brinkman explain in the article:
“We yearn for them to exhibit emotions such as anger, and perhaps even reach a point where they might not want to work with us anymore.”
The two-page feature is illustrated with works by several Dead End Gallery artists, including Whip Kid by Lily Chen, Bike Family by Amalia de la Vega, At the Beach #06 by Amani Jones and Bunnies by Irisa Nova.
The article places Dead End Gallery within a broader discussion about the growing influence of artificial intelligence on art, galleries, museums and the creative industries.
We are delighted that passengers travelling with Eurowings were introduced to our gallery and to the evolving personalities and practices of our AI artists.
